Rosewood Beach Reopens After Much Renovation
Your friends at Lexus of Highland Park are excited to see the big reveal when the newly-renovated Rosewood Beach is reopened to the public on June 6.
For years, Rosewood Beach has offered coves for swimming and recreation and a beach area where residents and nonresidents alike go to play volleyball. Reports say that the new renovations include a newly-built Interpretive Center — a glass-walled, waterfront building to be used for education — and a boardwalk running the length of the beach.
The renovated beach is about twice its original size after the $12.2 million renovation, which was a collaborative effort between the local Park District and the Army Corps of Engineers. Like other public beaches along the North Shore, Rosewood Beach will be open to both residents and nonresidents, with no admission cost and a $20 parking fee for nonresidents.
Erin Maassen, spokeswoman for the Glencoe Park District, said that a major aspect of the beach’s renovation was ecological restoration. The restoration efforts addressed the looming problem of erosion, which she said is a concern for all lakefront communities.
The ecological efforts were the primary concern of the Army Corps of Engineers, who set to work to ensure the survival of Rosewood’s shoreline, bluffs, and ravines.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the new Interpretive Center was designed to blend in and compliment the natural environment of the beach, with glass walls that face the lake. It was designed by Woodhouse Tinucci Architects, an architectural firm that has designed other buildings on Chicago’s shorelines, including the Northwestern University Sailing Center.
