Automated Braking Systems Just Got More Affordable
We rest a lot easier at night knowing that the vehicles we sell at Lexus of Highland Park are safe. We are able do this because we know that Lexus and parent company Toyota both work hard to ensure their vehicles contain the best and most advanced safety systems available, like low cost automated braking, for example.
Continuous improvements to safety benefits everyone, but sometimes new technology is priced out of range for many consumers, at least at first. That’s why Toyota is helping to bridge the gap with their driver safety systems, braking systems in particular. Toyota is introducing three safety packages that will feature a pre-collision automated braking system. Toyota Safety Sense C will be available for their compacts; Toyota Safety Sense P will be available for premium and midsize vehicles; and the Lexus Safety System+ will be available across the Lexus brand.
Toyota is committed to bringing safety to all Toyota and Lexus drivers and to do that they needed to lower the price. The Japanese auto giant chose the recent New York Auto Show to reveal their ambitious plans. At a press conference during the event, Toyota announced its intention to implement this package which includes automated pre-collision braking at a price below the industry standard for safety systems. They also noted that within two years time, these systems will be implemented across the entire line of both Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The Lexus Safety System+ features a number of accident avoidance and collision prevention systems such as the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Automatic High Beam (AHB).
The Lexus Safety System+, also known as LSS+, will be introduced to the RX midsize crossover initially, but will eventually see implementation in four additional models before the end of 2015. LSS+ is an option, albeit an inexpensive one, and you can’t put a price on safety. It’s expected this safety package to be priced between $500 and $635. The system incorporates a camera and radar that work with its pedestrian pre-collision system, as well as the lane departure warning and lane keep assist. It also uses this technology in concert with the automatic high beam and auto cruise control features. BMW offers a similar safety system at double the price and that’s without the pedestrian pre-collision feature.
