Highland Park Acknowledged for Academics
The town of Highland Park has long been well-regarded for its close knit community, wonderful restaurants and retail shops, and a calendar of diverse public events. Now the town is being highlighted for their academic achievement with the recent reveal of the top 100 Most Educated Places in America. Coming in at number 22 Highland Park was recognized right behind another local town Northbrook. Here at Lexus of Highland Park we know a good solid education is of the upmost importance, and we are thrilled to hear of this honor being bestowed on our town of Highland Park.
The list was created by Nerdwallet after they analyzed the U.S. Census Bureau data on the educational levels of the residents in over 2,000 places. The overall rankings were calculated by accessing the percentage of residents with at least a high school diploma or associate degree, a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, doctorate degree, or professional degree. Each sector counted towards a specific percentage of the totals eventually plotting the towns in their assigned rankings. According to the data analyzed about 86% of Americans 25 years and older have at least graduated from high school, and of those 29% have achieved a bachelor’s degree.
From the list of 100 towns across the United States there were nine Illinoisan locations listed including Highland Park. Other towns included on the list were Wheaton, IL at number 92, Glenview, IL at number 76, Buffalo Grove, IL at number 73, Libertyville, IL at number 62, Naperville, IL at number 57, Oak Park, IL at number 25, Evanston, IL at number 24, Highland Park, IL at number 22, and Northbrook, IL held the top spot of the Illinois towns at number 19.
Coming in at number one was Bethesda, Maryland holding strong in the top spot for the third year in a row. As the headquarters of the National Institutes of Health, Lockheed Martin, and other companies and government agencies the town of Bethesda is home to many highly educated professionals. The top pick is followed by Brookline Massachusetts and Potomac Maryland in the second and third spots.
