Highland Park High School Named One of Top 10 High Schools in Illinois
Everyone at Lexus of Highland Park is very proud of their community. We live in one of the best areas in the United States with amazing opportunities to live and raise a family. The schools in our area are impressive and have been nationally recognized, especially for one particular high school. Highland Park High School has been named as one of the top ranked high schools in Illinois.
There are over 600 high schools in our great state and all of them were placed in the hat for consideration. The U.S. News & World Report released the rankings recently and Highland Park High placed at an astonishing number eight on the list.
So what makes Highland Park High School such an outstanding facility? According to the U.S. News & World Report, 78 percent of students are proficient in reading and almost that many are proficient in math. They have a College Readiness Index of an impressive 60.2 with a STEM rank of 114 and a national rank of 313.
The evaluation of these schools focuses on students’ overall performance on three assessments: state assessments, Advance Placement tests and International Baccalaureate exams. They also keep track of a school’s inclusion in minority groups, which makes up twenty five percent of Highland Park High’s student body.
Highland Park High School started as a space above a paint store in 1887. It has moved locations a few times and had several high-dollar renovations, most recently in the year 2000. It currently has 2,000 students under its roof along with over 300 staff and faculty members. HPHS has over 45 clubs and more than 30 sports teams and is accredited by the state of Illinois and the North Central Association. It is also a member of the NACAC, the IACAC as well as the National College Board.
