2015 Lexus NX Takes on the Brand’s New Global Architecture
With the 2015 Lexus NX, Lexus has combined utility with luxury. With this all new vehicle, the Luxury automaker has fused the platform of a car with the roominess of an SUV and the features of a hatchback.
In fact, the chassis of the 2015 Lexus NX was built on the Toyota New MC platform, a front wheel drive automobile construction derived from the foundation of the original Toyota MC. The great thing about this new platform is that it can also adaptable to four-wheel drive.
This same chassis is being used with the 2015 Prius, as well as the all-new Toyota RAV4. The new framework is part of the larger Toyota New Global Architecture.
Toyota Motor Company is planning to introduce a new generation of hybrid technology used to develop the new Lexus NX and other models in its line-up. At Lexus of Highland Park, we look forward to this effort to increase the efficiency of the upcoming Lexus models.
While the cost to develop various models on different platforms increases, Lexus has created an advanced technology that not only heightens vehicle performance, but also increases the opportunity for greater design freedom.
The idea of designating one platform to base multiples vehicles on is a fairly recent concept that is gaining popularity in the automotive industry, and Lexus competitors like Mercedes, are also in the process of planning the MFA and MRA architecture for its vehicles.
The benefits of having a multi-car platform or matrix of components that can be used across different platforms with similar engine orientation reduces time and the investment used to test each separate framework.
It also improves ergonomics, while allowing Lexus to concentrate on sales and procurement.
The Toyota New Global Architecture will also provide Lexus with the capability of zeroing in on the needs of a domestic market, while providing customers with the cars they want next.
This is the foundation from which the 2015 NX was developed – but Lexus wanted to take its new compact crossover one step further.
The NX is equipped with a brand-exclusive, 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine for fuel economy and greater responsiveness. An advanced McPherson strut front suspension is combined with a high rigid body and low-friction moving parts.
Its new design offers lower flooring, greater underbody reinforcement, and high-stamped, high-tensile steel and aluminum for enhanced comfort, handling, and stability.
At Lexus of Highland Park, we can’t wait for our customers to try this new Lexus on for size. We expect the 2015 Lexus NX models to roll into our all new Lexus dealership in mid December– stay tuned for the announcement of their arrival!
