Lexus RX overshadows NX
Lexus has done exceedingly well with its utility vehicle line with four models that include the brand’s top-selling vehicle – the Lexus RX, which far outsells the most popular Lexus sedan.
The premium Toyota-owned car division sold more than 100,000 of the RX SUVs last year – twice as many as NXs sold, four times as many as GXs and many multiples more than the super-luxury LXs.
The RX is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, which provide plenty of get-around grunt. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Lexus Hybrid Drive with Atkinson-cycle V6 engine, 308 total system horsepower,1 30-MPG combined rating,2 Intelligent Shift Control, standard Navigation System3 and heated and ventilated front seats.
Driving modes enable the driver to fine-tune the experience. Sport and Sport+ offer sprightlier drives, while Normal and Eco conserve fuel. Suspension choices, through the vehicle’s “adaptive variable suspension” system, allow the driver to dial in maximum feel or comfort.
With a larger, more aggressively sculpted body, a sumptuous, futuristic interior, enhanced driving performance with advanced V6 engines, and the most comprehensive safety system ever offered on the RX, this is luxury in sharp focus.
The changes in exterior dimensions create more space inside. The seats have been dropped slightly to create more headroom. The storage spaces are bigger. The rear seats have been improved to the level of the flagship LS sedan, and they recline.
The RX is also available for the first time with 20-inch wheels –18-inch is standard – that add definition to its muscle. Also new this year are the paint colors Caviar, Autumn Shimmer and Nightfall Mica.
Simple, broad flowing lines form a center instrument panel that’s as captivating as it is convenient. The creation of distinct interior spaces—separating the display zone from the operation zone with open, fluid design elements—adds to an exciting cockpit atmosphere. The available new 12.3-inch multimedia display, Panoramic View Monitor, six-inch color HeadsUp Display and Remote Touch7 ensure that the RX interior remains intelligently intuitive.
Lexus also describes its new interior as “futuristic.” But some of the electronics are pretty futuristic too. The effective head-up display will show, depending on operator selection, speed, speed limit, tachometer, compass and other things.
The RX lets drivers see the bigger picture—the available 12.3-inch high-resolution multimedia display. Providing immediate, simultaneous access to audio or climate controls and various systems including Navigation, new display offers a full-screen map for added convenience
