Lexus Wins Overall Luxury Brand in Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

Consumer Reports issued this year’s Reliability Survey and once again Lexus, the Japanese automaker, made its way to the top of the list. In fact, Lexus won the title as the highest rated luxury brand in 2014.

For almost 80 years, Consumer Reports has championed consumer choices, making it a goal to help empower people to make informed decisions about their purchases. It continues this tradition to hold accountable both the public and private sectors for safer products, as well as fair market practices.

Consumer Reports prides itself on not being influenced by outside commercial or advertising influences. Since its inception, it’s been conducting research, product testing, ratings, public education, and advocacy as an independent, non-profit organization. They believe cars, like other products, should be safe, effective, reliable, and fairly priced.

When conducting research on new and used vehicles, Consumer Reports employs 50 state-of-the-art labs, a 327-acre automotive testing track, more than one million online activists, and hundreds of thousands of subscribers who offer valuable feedback on their purchasing choices and experiences.

Consumer Reports reviews 10 years of worth of data for new and used vehicle models for a more accurate overview. The group then asks subscribers to describe any issues they’ve had within a twelve-month period, looking specifically at any problems involving safety and making a list of trouble spots noted in their vehicle.

Consumer Reports compiles a list to show whether a vehicle has had fewer problems on average in a given year in each of the 17 designated trouble spots. New models are subject to a Predictability Rating based on recent history. The results show how each surveyed vehicle tested and how well it did in comparison to other models in the same class.
