Lexus Dramatizes IS Luxury Sedan Look
An updated version of the Lexus IS luxury sedan has been unveiled at the 2016 Beijing motor show. The compact executive saloon was in need of some major improvements in order to keep the design fresh.
The 2017 Lexus IS brings with it a revamped front-end design including newly reformed headlights that still sit proudly above those tick-shaped daytime running lights.
Below the L-shaped DRLs are new, very large air intakes that certainly make the IS appear sportier up front. The lower-spec models now get a more cohesive version of the polarising “Spindle” grille – previously there was a mesh lower section and slatted upper section. The headlight assemblies vary based on the model, too, with LED headlights on higher-spec versions and xenon projector units for the lower versions.
The new headlights and changes to the front grille design have been the key elements to change. This design change also help bring together a family look across Lexus models like the GS, RC, NX, and RX.
The company hasn’t just restyled the front – the rear end has seen a few changes, too. At the back there are new L-shaped tail-light inlays, as well as angular exhaust finishers.
17-inch alloys are standard on the IS. New wheel designs are also available, as well as a pair of new colours – Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black Glass Flak. They enhance the rear quarter of the vehicle quite dramatically, along with the L-shaped rear lights. Sportier features are offered on the F-Sport variant.
The biggest change on the inside of the Lexus IS is the 10.3-inch user interface. This screen is bigger than before and the user interface has been vastly revamped in order to make it easier for use.The centre console has seen more minor changes, including an “Enter” button as part of the Remote Touch Interface controller. The dash has also been redesigned while stitching has been added around the dials. Minor tweaks like the addition of better cup holders tend to make the Lexus IS perfect and primed for launch.
As far as safety tech is concerned, the Lexus IS boasts of every conceivable feature like radar guided cruise control, lane departure warning, pre-collision warning, and auto high beam make it a relaxing car to own and drive. Just like the RC Coupe, the Lexus IS comes with two options of internal storage.
The engine offerings are likely to go unchanged, with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo powerplant in the entry-level models (IS200t), a 3.5-litre V6 in sportier versions (IS350) and the frugal four-cylinder electric hybrid model for buyers who want to do their part (IS300h). A model with a V8 engine could later come in the disguise of the racy IS F.
Lexus has certainly taken a lot of cues from models like the Lexus LFA. It is possible to buy the Lexus IS luxury sedan with automatic or manual transmissions. Stop by Lexus of Highland Park to get yours today.
