Fourth of July Celebrations to Light Up Highland Park
Every year we gather in the streets to excited fanfare and American flags waving, a celebration of our country and our freedom. This year once again the residents and visitors of Highland Park will be able to take part in just such a celebration as the city will be holding some very special festivities for our nation’s birthday. Here at Lexus of Highland Park, your Lexus dealer in Illinois, we truly enjoy being a part of the community, and we are excited to share some of these upcoming events for the fourth of July.
Festivities will start off with a family-friendly children’s bike and pet parade, sponsored by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce at 9:30 in the morning. “Those interested in participating should meet at 9:15 a.m. in the lower level of the parking structure at the northwest corner of St. Johns and Laurel Avenues,” stated the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce’s website.
The Independence Day parade will follow up the morning celebrations starting at 10 a.m., and will also take place at the intersection of Laurel and St. Johns. After residents enjoy the parade festivities they can enjoy Fourth Fest at Sunset Park. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be “a variety of food vendors and musical performers to entertain residents,” according to the Chamber. Kids of all ages will enjoy carnival rides, an animal petting zoo, and live music.
For the 10th celebration of the Bitter Jester Battle of the Bands, six semifinalists will compete against each other during the concert and fireworks portion of this year’s merriment. Cash and prizes will be awarded, and the top performer will earn the title of the 2015 Grand Champion. Attendees will be able to partake in various food, drink, and dessert vendors.
After the concert ends the night sky will illuminate with an aerial fireworks display best seen from Wolters Field. Anyone looking for more information can visit the Chamber of Commerce’s website or call the city’s summer events hotline at (847) 926-1033.
