The Lexus LF-SA: Ultimate Luxury Made More Affordable
Lexus is set to reveal its new hatchback concept at the International Motor Show in Geneva on March 3, 2015. Dubbed the LF-SA, it is a completely new model positioned below Lexus’ CT 200h. This new premium supermini, with the company’s trademark hybrid powertrain, is built to rival the MINI Cooper and Audi A1.
Over the past few years, Lexus has been steadily moving away from conservative looks to bolder, sexier, more aggressive designs. Based on the architecture and dimensions of the Toyota Yaris, the new LF-SA Concept features Lexus’ trademark spindle grille and checkmark LED headlights wrapped in a compact front fascia and swollen wheel arches.
Likely a hybrid, the LF-SA will be “a driver-focused vehicle, reflecting Lexus’ vision that real experience will remain ultimate luxury” in a future “increasingly influenced by technology and virtual experiences,” according to a statement released by the company.
This is the first Lexus aimed at more “budget conscious” buyers, the company’s first B-segment light car costing an estimated $20,000-$30,000 at retail. As a luxury line, Lexus has previously stated they would never produce cars worth less than $30 grand. But this new, less expensive hatchback is a response to the floundering economic market facing car manufacturers everywhere. The LF-SA will be the most affordable Lexus to date.
Pending positive reviews at the Geneva Motor Show, the new premium supermini will go into production in 2017 with a 2018 release date. Lexus will also present its GS F performance sedan and a prototype of the LF-C2 convertible concept at the 85th International Motor Show in Geneva this March.
