Lexus Looks to Facebook for Inspiration
Lexus has resorted to soliciting ideas from its fans to name the exotic, opalescent orange shade of the 2015 RC F Sports Coupe. Interestingly, Lexus took to Facebook for ideas from Lexus followers to find a name for the newest addition to its brand. Far and wide, the creativity was flowing, as Lexus enthusiasts weighed in with names like Aranica Mica, Tatara Blaze, and Solar Flare Orange. Many of the suggestions that came in seemed to capture the essence of the vehicle’s unique color. Others, like ‘Spiced Vomit’…well…may be far from the top of Lexus’ list of viable options.
While Lexus extended its appreciation for the ingenuity of each entry, it’s not certain that the winning name will receive anything other than official Facebook recognition.
When it premiered at the Detroit Auto Show in January, the Lexus RC F was featured in a striking Ultrasonic Blue Mica color. However, recent photos have shown the car donned in a fiery, more in-your-face shade of orange that invokes passion and an unfettered sense of Waku Waku doki doki.
The potently eye-catching design was amped up and in full color – an obvious deviation from the toned down Ultra White, Liquid Platinum, and Nebula Grey Pearl offered on many of its vehicles. Lexus may have wanted to set the new RCF apart from its performance-ready predecessors – the IFS, LFA, and F Sport – and adorning the 2015 luxury coupe in a high-voltage orange hue could be one way to do it.
What we do know, is that Lexus has set its sights on creating a powerful adversary for the BMW M4 convertible and we couldn’t be more excited. Lexus took the RC Coupe version of the IS and added a stealthy 450hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Aerodynamic cues are taken from the LFA Supercar, while the RC F is equipped with the most powerful V8 engine offered by Lexus. Ever.
The Japanese automaker definitely pulled out all the stops building this sporty little number. The hood of the RC F is made of super strong, yet incredibly light-weight carbon fiber. A speed-sensitive rear spoiler among other modern features, allows this coupe to reach 186 mph, easy.
Also mated to the Lexus RC F is an eight speed automatic manual transmission with paddle shifters, plus three separate driving modes – Normal, Sport, and Snow.
Whatever Lexus decides to name the new color for the RC F, it will be come at a price north of $100,000 here in the U.S. and for those Lexus Lovers that are prepared to indulge, check out the all-new RC F at Lexus of Highland Park. At arrival, it will be well worth the price of performance. What do you think the orange Lexus RC F paint should be named?
