New Lexus NX Crossover: Built to Rival Competition
Bold. On word to best describe the up and coming 2015 Lexus NX crossover. Lexus is making a strong statement that its new and much-debated design, is here to stay. With standard features like performance-savvy engines and a spindle grill that only a Lexus enthusiast could love, this car maker is no longer playing it safe.
Mean and sleek could also detail the production version of the Lexus NX, although many believe the car maker will offer a more laid back version of the compact crossover once it’s rolled out later this year.
By the way, did someone say competition? From the very beginning Lexus made it clear that this luxury crossover vehicle would be vying for supremacy in the compact luxury crossover segment against the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the Acura RDX.
So what will this new Lexus look and sound like? It’s been said that the NX will share a similar platform as sister-brand Toyota’s RAV4 SUV, though it would obviously be upgraded to carry the luxury moniker of a Lexus.
With the headlights of the Lexus IS, the body of the CT200h, and the chassis of the RAV4, there’s a good chance that the new NX’s construct will take cues from each of these previous models.
Speaking of monikers, the brand’s new baby CUV is slated to be named the NX200t for what may well be a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. The “T” in 200t is speculated as representing a turbo engine, while a second powertrain, the NX300h, is said to be a 3.0 liter hybrid. Whatever the trim, this new Lexus could also be equipped with Toyota’s own D 4S direct-injection system.
Getting into the crossover game is crucial to any luxury brand, as a more cost-conscious, younger crowd of buyers is beginning to dictate current trends in the American automobile market.
Priced just under $40,000, it’s also obvious the millennial-minded purchaser has quickly become the one that holds the most purchasing power in America. After all, how many other Lexus models are priced in this range?
Whether battling for bragging rights or catering to the burgeoning buyer, Lexus’ luxury, sport-like mix with an all-new brash design, could just be exactly what the car buying market ordered.
