Sleek and Stylish New Lexus IS Sedan Debuts at April Press Event in Beijing
After inspiring a wave of impressive anticipation, the newly redesigned Lexus IS sedan made an illustrious debut last month, in a special event at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Satisfying the expectations of fans and press alike, the new IS revealed a wide variety of improvements to what has already proven to be one of Lexus’ best selling vehicles. With the dust just beginning to settle in the wake of the automotive press’ initial assessments, we’ve got everything you need to know to get in on the buzz that’s sure to keep things exciting while the new IS prepares its arrival.
To understand at least a part of the reason why many fans and members of the media have been anticipating the arrival of the new Lexus IS, it’s important to know that very little was revealed about the nature of its redesign before the show in Beijing. By successfully keeping all details under wraps, Lexus had a lot to show off to an obviously eager crowd. The IS has also become one of Lexus’ most reliably popular vehicles in recent years, growing to become one of the company’s most important assets.
At first glance, a variety of aggressive, angular adjustments to the front and rear ends are clear, including sleek new headlights and taillights, which bring a new sharpness to the sedan’s overall profile. A selection of futuristic metallic flake colors finish out the details for an impressively fierce new look on the whole. On the dash, the already impressive 7-inch infotainment screen steps up to 10.3 inches while redesigned gauges, audio interface, and climate controls have been upgraded with a higher-quality finish.
When it comes to available options, Lexus has revealed three IS engine configurations, which include an entry-level 2.0-liter turbo inline four-cylinder with a generous 241 horsepower, a 3.5-liter V6 AWD with 255 horsepower and a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as a 3.5-liter V6 RWD dishing out 306 horsepower with the eight-speed automatic it shares with the four-cylinder. To finish out a considerate update from every possible angle, new additions to onboard safety technology include Lexus Safety System +, which provides collision alert, lane departure alert, steering assist, automatic high beams, and radar-enhanced cruise control.
Never one to disappoint, particularly when it comes time to make a stylish entrance, the Lexus IS seems to have been welcomed back with little hesitation, ready with more than enough thoughtful updates and evolutionary style to push the envelope well past expectation.
