The Featured Yellow Lexus LFA at the 2015 Media Ambition Tokyo
The Lexus LFA is one of the most expensive Japanese road cars ever put into production, with base prices in 2012 at a whopping $445,000 for the circuit-tuned variant. With only 500 cars made in the model’s lifetime, the final version is the Nurburgring Package model, which made the 10th-fastest time for a street model during a warm up at the Nurburgring in June 2011.
With the “ultimate Lexus” in mind, CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation (parent company to Lexus), Akio Toyoda, wanted to use the model as an internationally recognizable icon for the brand. The “F” logo on the Roadster indicates that it is a part of the “F” class that was originally used for the Lexus LS. From there, the “F” became the code for the F1 which was used by the LS. Now, the “F” symbolizes Lexus vehicles that are a part of a specialty development and engineering program within Lexus.
Now this “F” class vehicle has been spotted in Tokyo at a Media Ambition Tokyo installation entitled “1,220” which makes reference to the 48-inch height of the vehicle. The Installation participants are asked to lay down below a screen next to the vehicle as images flash on a screen above them. This compilation is meant to represent the experience of light collecting meaning as it moves between the screen and the vehicle.
Although the installation itself is striking, what’s even stranger is the fact that the Roadster, while rare, is ever rarer in its color — the car on display at Media Ambition Tokyo is yellow. This is the first time a yellow Roadster has ever been accessible for public viewing. Since 2008, the Roadster has been exhibited in either red or white, so there’s speculation about how the yellow model came into existence. Bold Ride recently got in touch with Lexus to inquire about the inception of this one-off yellow model but have yet to hear back. It’s possible that the vehicle was modified after purchase, but the MAT exhibition gives no clue to the Roadster’s birthplace or alteration.
The artfulness of this vehicle is apparent no matter what color it comes in, that goes without being said — from the car’s strategic balance of speed and power in a heavily streamlined design and lightweight frame, the Lexus LFA is a dream car if you can get your hands on one of the 500 vehicles out there.
Although we can’t all experience the sheer energy of a Lexus LFA Roadster — especially such a tricked out model — there’s always a great Lexus waiting for you to get behind the wheel at Lexus of Highland Park. Give us a call at 847-999-0095 for more information about sales.
