The Lexus RC Coupe Gets Turbocharged for 2016
We’ve all been introduced to the 2016 model of the new Lexus RC Coupe and it is looking quite stunning to say the least. Fairly identical to its predecessor, the 2016 RC Coupe settles in the wake of the 2016 IS, but gains a new 200t variant that features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pushes 241 horse power and 258 lb-ft of torque. This new engine is run exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels.
If you are in the market for a more powerful feel, customers can opt for the new RC 300 AWD, which gives you a 3.5-liter V6 engine and produces 255 horse power and 236 lb-ft of torque. This is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and, obviously, an all-wheel drive system. The Lexus RC 350 continues on with a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 306 horse power and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs up with an eight speed auto transmission and only comes with a rear wheel drive option. The RC 350 is also available in an F Sport variant, which features electronic suspension damping and rear-wheel steering. The damper system is designed to enhance ride comfort and body lean control, contributing to natural, smooth changes in vehicle attitude.
The RC 200t engine is especially interesting seeing as it features a combination of water-cooled cylinder head, integrated exhaust manifold, and twin scroll turbocharger for fast throttle response, performance, and high torque at low engine revs. This new four-cylinder engine relies on a turbocharger that was developed entirely in-house to offer the efficiency and power delivery for Lexus applications. This allows Lexus to create a direct injection system that combines a high pressure fuel system for injection directly into the cylinders with a low pressure system for injection into the ports. Injection is then split between the direct and port injectors according to the engine load to help increase the vehicle’s fuel economy.
Any other additional changes with regard to the new Lexus RC Coupe are limited and the company is keeping them under its hat for now (though, I am sure we will hear more about them in the coming future). We do know that there is a new exterior color named “Eminent White Pearl” and, too, that F Sport model variants can now be equipped with orange brake calipers and a limited slip differential. The model also comes equipped with the Lexus Enform Service Connect system which allows owners to view vehicle information from the MyLexusandBeyond app on their iOS devices.
Unfortunately, Lexus has not set in stone an official release date for the 2016 RC Coupe just yet, but, seeing as we are fast approaching the end of 2015, it should not be too terribly long before the automaker officially announces a release date.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Lexus of Highland Park for more information as it develops.
