Lexus Debuts New, Luxurious Sports Yacht Concept
What could be better than cruising along soft blue waves on a hot day with a fruity drink in your hand? Doing it all in the new Lexus Sports Yacht, a luxury yacht concept debuted by the renowned automaker at this year’s Miami International Boat Show.
The 42-foot, eight passenger Lexus Sports Yacht is designed for the kind of easy, fun weekend adventures you dream of, but is also capable of some exceptional technical feats.
The yacht is constructed of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CRFP), a material that’s typically used in race cars and supercars. Combined with a stepped hull design that reduces drag and improves handling (the Lexus Sports Yacht weighs 2,200 pounds less than a conventionally-designed similarly-sized yacht) and a remarkably powerful engine, this Lexus boat is one for the books. (And the beach.)
The Sports Yacht’s power comes from two Lexus V8 race car engines that produce a combined 885 horsepower, giving you a top speed of 43 knots or 49 miles per hour. With that kind of impressive speed and the yacht’s unique design, the Lexus Sports Yacht could be a stand-out option in the world of performance boats.
Naturally–as with all Lexus products–design is key when it comes to the Sports Yacht. The yacht’s passenger cabin is outfitted in Lexus leather with wood and glass details. It feels sumptuous and refined but not extravagant. The cabin also includes standing height sofa seating for six with a table, a gallery with a two-burner stove, sink and under-counter refrigerator, a beautifully-designed bathroom with a shower, and air conditioning throughout.
“This concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht allowed us to explore how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime lifestyle,” Yoshihiro Sawa, executive vice president of Lexus International, said in a recent statement.
“For the Lexus Design Center, this project has been very exciting. The effort is valuable to us as it stirs our creative energies and pushes our imagination to design and lifestyle possibilities outside of the automotive realm we know well,” Sawa continued.
For now, the Lexus Sports Yacht remains a concept and isn’t expected to hit the consumer market any time soon.
