Lexus Uses Hands-Free Eyes-Free Apple Technology
The new hands-free, eyes-free integrated technology from Apple could be a viable solution to the epidemic known as distracted driving. Any activity other than driving, including the use of cell phones while on the road, has been a topic of hot debate. Here at Lexus of Highland Park, we understand how dangerous distracted driving can be and are thrilled to see Lexus trying new technology to put an end to it.
Apple has been slow to step into the ring when it comes to in-car technology even as its competitors like Microsoft have jumped at the opportunity to integrate the internet and computers with automobiles.
What originated as an application by the Siri brand in 2010, quickly became available to users as part of Apple’s software package line-up, or more specifically, Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, in 2011.
Siri is a personal assistant and knowledge navigator for the brand. It responds to voice prompts by answering questions, giving suggestions, and providing information to its users. According to Apple, the software will eventually pick up on a driver’s likes and dislikes and personalize the results.
Initially introduced to the automotive industry as an upgrade for select vehicle packages, Siri soon gained notoriety when presented as a hands-free/eyes-free option for drivers when operating their vehicles.
Recently, it was announced at the World Wide Developers conference in San Francisco that Apple would begin integrating Siri and Bluetooth voice commands with the hands free button on the steering wheel of participating automobiles.
Lexus was one of the automakers that planned to incorporate the new Siri Eyes Free technology. The automaker realized that its drivers needed a way to stay connected and keep their eyes on the road while in motion.
The Siri Eyes Free system does more than just answer the phone when it rings or play downloaded music from ITunes. Ask for directions and the voice navigated assistant will give you turn-by-turn instructions to the nearest restaurant.
Need to stay on top of your work while you travel? The iOS 7 Siri mobile technology can also read emails and text messages. Schedule meetings, get the weather, make reservations – all without having to take your eyes off the road.
Add appointment or reminders to your calendar, take notes, and check the latest sports scores.
Lexus has brought the future to the car. At Lexus of Highland Park we think that technology within the vehicle will likely be moving away from the in-dash infotainment, to providing more mobile-friendly systems like Siri.
The 2015 Lexus IS is leading the way by delivering what Apple has dubbed “iOS in the car” with the addition of Apple’s all-new technology. We here at Lexus of Highland Park are pleased to offer the best of both worlds in our luxury vehicles and encourage all Chicagoland shoppers to stop over to our dealership and browse our inventory.
