Lexus Safety Sense
When you drive every day, multiple times a day, it’s easy to become a victim to highway hypnosis. This means that it’s easy to forget the importance of details and the dangers of driving. No more checking your mirrors constantly or being virtually aware of everything around you-you are now a zombie on the road following the muscle memory of your everyday life. It is not until something catastrophic happens or you get a ticket that you really change your habits. Lexus knows this, and their new Safety Sense plans for this.
Lexus wanted to protect collisions by preventing collisions. It does this by sensing the surroundings of the car. Lexus aims to prevent nighttime collisions, unintended lane departures, and frontal collisions. This Safety Sense works by alarming the driver of pedestrians with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, intelligent high beams, and high-speed dynamic radar cruise control. These are just the four main points of Lexus Safety Sense, there are multiple details of each system that go into alerting the driver of a potential issue. You can read about all these features, operations, setting adjustments, limitations, and precautions here.
Certain features come in only certain models. For example, the vehicle with lane departure alert only is the LX models 2016-2018. However lane departure alert with assisted steering comes in the IS, ES, GS, GS F, NX, RX, RC, RC F, and LC, The newer and more advanced the model, the more Safety Sense features there are. Lexus also warns that in harsh weather conditions or when a vehicle is an awkward spot in regards to the pedestrian or bicycle. There are warning and precautions for driving in general, but this Safety Sense technology is evidence that we are getting closer and closer to autonomous driving.
Lexus has announced that it plans to come out with a self-driving car in the year 2020, that is only two years away! It seems crazy how close we are too autonomous driving being a reality. It will be some time before we see this on the streets every day, but the more car buyers and other car brands hop on the trend that Lexus is helping set, the closer we are to is changing the world of driving forever.
